Plenary: Financial Inclusion of Forcibly Displaced Persons (FDPs): Building Bridges
9:00 AM - 10:15 AM
Refugees
Room José Ensch - second floor

As of June 2023, there are more than 102 million people forcibly displaced around the world (UNHCR, 2023). Wars, human rights violations, political, ethnic, or religious persecution, and climate-induced displacement have led them into the unknown. During the emergency crisis and the subsequent settlement in host countries, securing a constant revenue stream is of utmost importance to give agency and autonomy back to these communities. Being financially literate and able to use such a system is a main condition to look after one's own livelihood. This plenary gathers different perspectives of varied stakeholders working with financial inclusion of FDPs. From regulators to credit agencies, their wins and challenges reflect the recommendations promoted by the Roadmap to the Sustainable and Responsible Financial Inclusion of FDPs, an initiative launched in 2019, to build bridges and strengthen the financial sector, worldwide, on the topic of forced displacement. The speakers here presented will demonstrate where we stand today about encouraging such connections and collaboration. This session, organised by the Community of Practice of the Roadmap for Financial Inclusion of FDPs, provides a reality check on the topic of financial inclusion of FDPs and will be followed by a 75-min panel showcasing in-country implementation examples from the field.
