On 19 July 2022, the Board of Directors of LuxDev, the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency, appointed Mr Manuel Tonnar as the new Director General. He took up his post on 1 September 2022, replacing Director General Gaston Schwartz, who announced his retirement.
An economist by training, with an MBA in international business management, Mr Tonnar has over 20 years of experience in the field of development cooperation. Since 2017, he was Director of Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. He joined the Development Cooperation Directorate in 2004 and served as Deputy Director from 2013 to 2017. In this capacity, he was, among others, Alternate Governor of the International Fund for Agricultural Development and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of LuxDev and Luxflag.
Mr Tonnar started his career in the private sector in 1997 with Paul Wurth, before embarking on an international career in Mali (1999-2001) and Vietnam (2001-2003) as a Programme Officer with the United Nations Development Programme.
