George has 25 years uninterrupted experience in commercial banking in East Africa. Presently the Managing Director, National Bank of Kenya – part of KCB Group Plc. Previously served as Managing Director at BPR Bank Rwanda Plc in Rwanda and prior to that, served as Managing Director, KCB Bank Rwanda Plc. Has been in C-Suite for last six years in different subsidiaries of KCB Group Plc. A Certified Executive Coach with the Academy of Executive Coaching (UK), graduate of the University of Nairobi, School of Mathematics (BSc Mathematical Statistics 1994 and MSc Pure Mathematics 1998) and KCA University, Post Graduate Diploma in Corporate Governance 2007. Among other responsibilities, George sits in the COMESA Business Council Advisory Board and Chairs Financial Services Sub-Sector.
Earlier banking career started in 1999 at Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Ltd (SCBK) from beginners’ level rising through the ranks and left in 2005 as Branch Manager to join Barclays Bank of Kenya as Area Manager in Retail Banking Division for two years before taking up new responsibility within Barclays Bank Africa as the Head, Business Analytics and Planning for the East & West Africa from Dec 2007 to Dec 2008.
He joined KCB Bank Group Plc in January 2009 and has held various roles from then. From Jan 2009 to July 2013, Head of Business Analytics and Transformation Project based in Nairobi and reporting to Deputy GCEO. Moved to KCB Bank Rwanda Plc (a subsidiary of KCB Bank Group Plc) in Sept 2013 to take up the role of Head of Retail Banking before becoming the Head of Business Development and Client Services in March 2014, reporting to Managing Director.
